What to wear to the interview?

QUESTION:
An upper-level managerial position has opened up at work and I think I would be perfect for it.  In my current position I dress very casually – but all the upper-level managers wear suits and ties.  I don’t fit into any of my old suits – and haven’t worn one in years.  I want to get a new one to wear to the interview – but I don’t know what I should be looking for when buying a suit.  Can you help?

ASK LIFESTYLE ANSWERS:
For men or women, the best suit color choice is a dark neutral. Many women choose black, but very dark navy, gray or brown may be more versatile for future use. Trousers are best for both sexes, too. How we look, especially at work, can have a big influence on how others perceive us. Even in today’s economy, buy the best you can afford. After all, this is your future. If you’re looking to make $100,000 a year, don’t look like $35,000. Have the suit altered to fit perfectly. Yes, this is another expense, but a necessary one. If you don’t get the job, another one will probably show up and you’ll be ready. Or, wear the jacket and pants as separates. Please don’t worry about wearing them out unevenly¦that hardly happens anymore. You’ll appear more confident if you think like you look like a million.  Julie Foley
