8 Unhealthy Habits To Be Rid Of – NOW
With more and more people living longer than ever before, it’s important to figure out how to maintain our physical and mental health as we age. Here are 8 Unhealthy Habits To Dump, ASAP.

Stop Overspending and Get Your Budget Under Control

Maxing out your credit card means not only are you living an unsustainable lifestyle, but you’re using additional resources to fuel your overspending. It also means you’re accruing interest and possibly incurring expensive fees for hitting your max. When your spending is no longer about what you have in your wallet, but how much you can get your hands on to continue buying, it’s time to make a change.

As you grow older, money worries can have serious health consequences. In a recent Rutgers University telephone survey, responders said financial stress contributed to high blood pressure, depression, insomnia, headaches, digestion troubles, aches and pains, ulcers, excessive smoking and drinking, and gaining or losing weight. Why You Should Stop: You’ll regain a hold on your finances. But for those who succeed, and many people do, the results are stunning. You’ll feel more in control of your life with less stress and fewer worries. You’ll be able to sleep better, stop overeating, and have fewer headaches.

Life’s Enough: Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

If you took the strengths of others and compared them to your weaknesses, how do you think you’d size up? And do you think this would make you feel good? It is very important to be able to look at your own strengths and see your true value. Plus, you will never win this game. There will always be someone smarter, better looking, richer, and (seemingly) happier. Always. Focus on yourself, your mindset, your health, the state of your being, and you’ll win.

By undertaking the game of comparisons you are bound to end up feeling envious and low in confidence. Comparing yourself to others is also not very effective, as the front that others present in public may mask what they are really feeling or going through.

Sleep Better

Getting a good sleep at night has a direct impact on how we feel during the day. If you sleep poorly even one night, you will probably feel sluggish and tired the next day. If you continually get poor sleep it can lead to some serious health problems down the road. Once way to improve sleeping habits is to avoid technology in the bed. For the same reasons you shouldn’t have a TV or computer in your bedroom, you also shouldn’t have a cell phone, tablet, laptop, portable game console, or e-reader in the room either. Most of these devices also emit the sleep stealing light and are used for consuming content that may rob you of sleep because it’s so engaging.

Stop Being a Couch Potato

Stop Being a Couch Potato

Being inactive predisposes you to be overweight and ultimately obese. Also, sedentary life style results in increased levels of harmful fats in the body and ultimately damages the heart and can cause a heart attack.

In simple terms, being inactive causes your body to create more fat within your already-existing fat cells, so the cells themselves become larger. Constantly putting pressure on your body’s cells causes fat cells to spread out and grow bigger.

A recent study published in The Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that men who reported spending two or more hours per day sitting in front of a television had twice the risk of having a heart attack or cardiac “event” than the men who reported watching less television

We have all know that keeping fit will help you get the most out of life.

Stop complaining

Stop complaining.

OK, We all complain a little. Even if you argue that you are the happiest person in the world, you still complain sometimes. In most cases, It’s just not worth it. Be aware of the words that come out of your mouth. They affect you and the people around you. Speak of good things, and more good things happen. Speak of negative things, and more negative things happen. Our brains tend to gravitate toward the negative. Much like the quote above, we are bothered first by the thorns in the rose bush instead of being marveled by the sight of the beautiful roses.

This requires a new practice of being mindful. When you find yourself thinking or saying a negative comment about something or someone, stop and force yourself to say something positive instead. Enlist the help of a cheerful friend to stop you when you complain and help you to see the positive in the situation.

Stop thinking you need to satisfy everyone

Offer Specific Help

We’re all “people pleasers” to some extent, snd that’s okay. The desire to be approved of—and loved—is as natural as wanting food and shelter.

However, after you reach a certain age it is time to stop trying to please everyone around you and choose a couple of close friends and family to be good to. Invest your time and energy wisely and be selective when you choose to help others. Most importantly don’t skimp on your own needs. Simply put, no matter how much you try and no matter how “nice” you are with people, you simply can’t have everybody like you for there will always be people who will continue talking about you and your “inappropriate” way of thinking, behaving, breathing, dressing, living, etc.

Stop abusing your feet

Stop abusing your feet

As we get older our feet get older, too, and start yelling for help! The shoes we normally wear begin to become uncomfortable, and it seems like our shoe size has changed, but it hasn’t. The reasons for this are the muscles in the arch begin to fatigue and you need more arch support when wearing footwear.

Of course, your feet are essential for life. Make sure you wear shoes that fit and are comfortable. Otherwise you may end up with infections, hammer toes, blisters, weird skin or bunions. And these ailments could prove to slow you down later in life.

Stop being lazy with your dental hygiene

Stop being lazy with your dental hygiene

It’s increasingly common to hear that oral health is vital for overall health. According to Delta Dental, however, there is now evidence of two specific links between oral health and heart disease.

Look after your teeth because you only get one set. Make sure you get your teeth cleaner regularly and do all the daily dental hygiene stuff that needs to be done. The longer you keep your own teeth the better your smile will be and the happier you will be eating.
