IN HIS OWN WORDS (A SHARED STORY): JUMP IN

JEROME GREEN

In his own words (A Shared Story): Jump InI started running in the pool about a month ago to reconnect with running and to get more exercise. My joints don’t allow me to run on concrete or the track anymore so I decided to go back to the pool. I use to go in the pool as a part of my training, to rest the legs and joints, and now it is my training. Pool running is actually a lot of fun and after a month I’ve lost a couple of pounds and my legs are starting to regain some of it shape and muscle memory. The other night while I was running I remembered, that as a kid, that I really luvved going to the Far Rockaway High School pool in the summer. I was living in Redfern projects and went to the community center. We would walk to the pool twice a week. I remember having a feeling of total exuberance the night before in anticipation of the next day's dip.

On the way to the pool we would sing, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”, and “Under The Boardwalk” with anticipation of jumping into the cool pool.

Movement is key element to being able to listen deeply to conscience. When I am moving, I hear more clearly, I listen deeper and ideas come to me. Want to connect more with conscience? Jump in the pool or some other activity that allows you to move and listen. You don’t need a gym, you can walk, dance, or do other things that will ignite your heart both on the feeling and physical levels.

A note from Jerome:

Hello, my name is Jerome Green and I am 57 years old. I was a high school and college runner, and ran road races until 40. Between playing basketball and running my knees gave out and I had really run consistently for the past 15 years.  In August I decided to do a run in the Pool with my Aqua belt. Since then, I have gained greater flexibility in my joints and no knee pain. I run 4-6 times a week for 30-40 minutes.

Hoophound Jerome,

Thank you for forwarding your article regarding your pool running. I am
glad you have found this form of training and the benefits that are
gained from it. I am grateful for you sharing your message and
experiences with us and afterfiftyliving.com. You represent all of us
who have been physically active over the years and will continue to be
even though some of our previous land activities may not be possible.
This is our mission @ AquaJogger, helping others to improve their

Good article. Were not aware that you were a track man! On other hand, what stands out is the health information and its relevance for those of us who are today's "senior citizens" like me, a War Baby.
