A SHARED STORY: MY LOVE
GINGER
My story begins many years ago. I am, at this point and time, 54 years young. I was in the 7th grade dressing up for a costume Halloween Party. I found one of my sister’s old prom dresses and decided to dress up as a princess. One of my sisters (I have 10 in my family) took a photo of me sitting by the vanity all dressed up.
She was married to a man named Christopher. She was pretty young herself.
Christopher had a younger brother named Cary. My sister showed that photo to Cary and he loved the picture so he wrote me a letter wanting to be friends. I wrote back and said yes. But then I never heard from him again.
I grew up and graduated high school, got married right after high school and had a baby girl. That marriage only lasted 1 year. We decided, my daughter and I, that we needed a change. So we packed up and moved to Oregon, mainly because my high school motto on the walls stated that we should go west "young man," and that is what we did.
We started our new lives in a place called the The Dalles, Oregon. I didn't have a car, so I bought a 10 speed bicycle and a baby seat and found a job at Burgerville. I was living in a house renting a bedroom for 40 dollars a month. This was back in 1978. I realized I needed to get a better career to help in raising my daughter, so I applied to the Community College in Portland Oregon to become a PE Teacher. I always loved swimming & gymnastics.
My sister (she was my best sister) who was married to Christopher was living in SLC at the time and I decided that I wanted to go visit her before I began school. I took the train from Oregon to Utah and to my surprise Cary was waiting for us at the train station.
It was love at first site and we have been together for 34 years now with 2 boys added to our family.
Cary took Trisha, my daughter, under his wing and has never let go.
He is truly my Hero. We have been through many, many, crazy times and he has been my steadfast Captain, and I say that literally. I know he would move heaven and earth for me if he were able. You should have seen what he did for our 25th Anniversary!!!
