My Money

Do you think you'll have (or do you have) enough money to retire comfortably? How are your financial resources being managed? Do you manage your own money or does someone do it for you? Are you satisfied with your financial life? What would make it better?

Resistor My original post on Fri Mar 4, 2011, 11:08:35 PM EST, is more than a year old, now. Have you seen any inflation, yet? I'll answer the question for you: Nope. You ain't seen nothing yet. Not compared to what is coming. A word to the wise: Store food. Why? you ask... Stored food is to get you to the next growing season, and hope and pray that you have a place to grow food, and the knowledge and luck, as well. You would also do well to, as they say: tribe up. You have no voice, no power, no property rights, no rights under the constitution, at all. All you own is what you can carry... And, what you can defend. Old folks should get together, then make a place for younger folks. The younger folks can provide the strength needed for many things, if not the smarts. Trouble there, though, is the old folks lost the art and skill of the old ways. How many know how to can food, today? Precious few, I'd say. Find your way to a freer state, if you can. It might not matter much, before too long. Time grows shorter, by the day. Oh, and that little problem with Greece - that is not measured in the billions. It is more like $37 trillion, and it promises to cascade a lot of dominoes. But, hey, don't take my word for it. Just ask a liberal, whether D or R. .

VIntageHippie Due to some financial and health setbacks, I have had to cease saving as much as I'd like to pay the doctors. However, this past illness really screwed me up and I had to switch careers. Then, that job died with the economy....so anyhow, the point is that due to the hardship, I have learned to live very frugally. The good news is that I have zero debt right now other than a small student loan that I used for grad school. Within 5 years, I can begin to draw a pension from a previous job, and do that even IF I'm working. I am hoping that between my frugal life and my pension, I can survive so that the job will be icing on the cake.....

Resistor LovesToRead, your comment suggests that you are not paying attention. Either that, or you are willfully ignorant. You have lots of company, what ever the case... You also have no voice. To paraphrase what another feller said: The sheep will graze in the sparse pasture of inflation. Agriculture is where money is made on the inflation that is created by the money makers. Food, subsidized by We the People, will buy the silence of foreign governments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umrp1tIBY8Q

LovesToRead I have to say there are many changes going on in our current system, many of which are due to us becoming a bit more lazy then the generations before us and want too much for nothing. I'm not on the sure it is all so bad that we need to move to hide aways for fear of genocide. I think it is important to keep a clear head and stay involved, that is the only way to make your voice heard to make changes.

Resistor You will not likely have enough money to retire on. The Federal Reserve is a private corporation. Why is a private business printing our money? Why is a private business printing so much money? You ain't seen no inflation. Not yet, you ain't... Inflation is monetary thing, caused by too much printing. This is visible in the price of gold/silver. Precious metals prices are not rising. The dollar is falling. Hyper-inflation is another animal, entirely. That is caused by a loss of confidence in the currency. And, a currency war has been raging, for quite some time, now. There was an article within the past day or 2, that the US Treasury admitted to spending more than $1 Trillion, in February. Much of it being spent on the US debt. Soon, you may not be able to find or pay for food, fuel, heat, etc. Move to a remote location with water, where you can grow your own food. There are many, many threats to our very existence. All of them operate under color of law. Most people disagree with me. Most people ain't paying no attention... I hope I don't break a rule here: For current events, go to: www.TheTreeofLiberty.com/vb/ http://74.39.184.126/vb/ The second address is the same as the first. It simply by-passes the DNS system. www.TheTreeofLiberty is a Christian site, and well moderated. We get a little punchy at times, but we always seek the truth. You may need a strong heart, to survive it. For what it is worth, in Oct 2008, I entered a state of shock and panic that took the better part of a year to come to grips with. The cause was the rate of change, and the trajectory. I couldn't articulate it, at the time, but the ultimate trajectory was genocide - here in the USA. And, I believe that now, more than ever. It is time to repent, and seek Jesus. I love the truth.

drosenth613 Hey Tony, I am actually just finishing up using Turbotax for 2010, and I hope to efile by the end of this week!
Mon Feb 28, 2011, 10:30:30 PM EST
drosenth613 Hey ErikD, Have you tried using online software, such as Turbotax or TaxAct? I have been using Turbotax for many years, and it has saved me hundreds of dollars that would have otherwise gone to paying CPAs.
Sat Feb 19, 2011, 11:38:01 PM EST
Tony I've used Turbotax also and have to say I like it. It is worth giving it a try.
Sun Feb 27, 2011, 4:43:31 PM EST
ErikD Tax time again! My least favorite time of year. I really need to find someone to review my finances but I’m not sure what types of questions I need to ask of them to find on that is good.

Chevy I would run as fast as I can from a reverse mortgage. I've never taken out one, but I thought about and did some research on it. I also spent time talking with some people that I trust. Also, Google reverse mortgage. Learn what it really means. I bet you'll make the same decision I did.

Jo-Anne We actually have posted a video about reverse mortgages here on AFL. Go to the Your Money section. In the box that's labeled Popular In Your Money, upper right side of the page, click on the "more" option on the right. A list of videos will appear. The second one is about reverse mortgages.

1stnanny Reverse Mortgages? Has anyone here in this forum ever had a reverse mortgage? If so, how long a process is it? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Tony The newspapers used to run these money-makeover columns. A financial planner type person would look at your finances (whatever amount you had) and would figure out what you needed to do to survive. I know I didn't understand everything they said, but they were helpful.

Jo-Anne If you would like, try submitting your money-question to the Pro here at After Fifty Living. If you click on the Your Money icon you can then click on Ask Your Money in the dropdown menu that appears. The Pros would luvvv to get your questions...

ebppuid1 I hear, you, Babs. I only wish I had some money that need to be "managed." Don't know what to do about retirement. Guess I'll be working a long, long time.
Mon Jul 26, 2010, 10:28:40 AM EDT
Babs Oops, I wasn't done! Anyway, like other women of our generation some of us are funding college for a couple kids and waiting for the last one to enter high school....while at the same time, other peers are off to Europe on their pensions! Vanilla doesn't work for our generation. I want someone who thinks Chocolate Almond Chip:) Babs

Jo-Anne I'm not convinced that money managers really watch your money with a great deal of diligence. Any time I've ever asked a pointed, hard question, I get a very vanilla response. Why is that?
