AnnML I'm heading out to Vegas in a month and would like some ideas for great places to eat and what shows anyone has seen lately that were good. We'll be trying to fit in some golf while we are there too!

bonnie8856 Hi- I haven't been able to go to Vegas for a gambling trip since my separation and divorce almost 3-1/2 years ago. This economy took a toll on my finances- and my ex's. When we wnt we stayed at good ole "Sam's Town"- everything you need is right there and the employees are always friendly. I used to have a member card and used my points to get 3-day weekends for free. I even had good luck there several times and came home with a few $$. I also enjoyed "Sunset Station" in Henderson- it's basically the same idea- everything you need is right there. When I was younger I used to like to sight see and walk up and down the strip- but now I can be very happy staying put. Not having to deal with the traffic makes the trip more relaxing. I would have liked to see more shows while in town but we never seemed to plan ahead and buy tickets. The free shows are sometimes just as good!

Thumper1943 I don't mind staying on The Cheap, or best deal at Vegas. Just as long as the bed is comfortable. I am there to play those slot machines, maybe get lucky in more ways than one, and then whhatever happenes in Vegas, stays in Vegas. You will always find super deals on meals, and just because your not staying at The Wynn doesn't mean you can't go in, and blend right in. I am not cheap, and I am not rich by any means. I am on Social Security, so as long as that room is clean, and comfortable, thtas fine with me.

NowAGrandma I have to agree, it is easy for a single lady or couple of friends to get around in Vegas safely and still have a great time. It is well lit, there are cameras all around, the staff and hotels are all helpful and best of all it is easy to move from one casino to another. Now days there a so many deals on flights and rooms it is a good time to fly out and check it out. I went recently with a group of girl friends, sometimes we were together and other times we went off on our own because of our likes or dislikes

Tony Get real, if I'm heading out to Vegas I'm going to have a good time. The best hotels, like the Wynn, golfing with my buddies and gambling. If I wanted a $1 breakfast I'd stay home and go to McDonalds.

Nrgyzng I lived in Las Vegas for 13 years. I left there in 1998. I recently visited there with my new husband and I was disappointed and surprised. Disappointed because it isnt the town it used to be...gone are the days of the .99 breakfasts..the 4.95 prime rib dinner and the 4.95 buffets...but surprised at how much the town has grown and lost its ambiance. It is still true today though as it was in the past ..dont stay on the strip..dont gamble on the strip and dont try to find a deal on the strip, they arent there any more. The best place in my opinion to get all these is on what is known as the "Boulder Strip" or in Henderson. You can find good food..reasonable rates on hotels and old style gambling. My favorite place out there is the El Dorado and The Rainbow Casino is as close to OLD Vegas as you will find there now. It is safe and the people are very friendly. I stay as far away from the strip as I possibly can when I visit there. Henderson is where you can get more bang for your buck.

ponnie1950 The Main St. Station has a great menu, includes seafood, and it's a huge sporstbar enviroment. The Golden Gate has a deli in the back of that little casino, with great sandwiches, and a inexpensive shrimp cocktail. The Rio has a around the world buffet, it's reasonable, and has a huge selection of cusine. I'll write more as I think if it!!

Donnajane08 This message is for Nanette - I can't respond to your question directly. ABOUT COMPS...once you stay at a new hotel here you need to get a Players Club Card. They track your play and whether your from out-of-town or not. If you are from out-of-town they will send you offers to get you to come back. Once your here and gamble a bit on your card you can ask to see a Casino Host and ask them directly for comps. Buffets are easy to get from them. Quite a few hotels give cash back for play. When you get your Players Card ask if they have any coupons or booklets that give discounts.

Nanette I went once, so long ago that the Excaliber was under construction. We stayed at the Sahara. It has a smaller casino, but we liked that! We could check in with each other, then wander off in different directions without feeling lost. I have no idea what kind of condition it's in nowadays -- or even if it's still standing! :o)

Donnajane08 I've stayed at the Wynn three times and it's a beautiful hotel. The rooms are modern and spacious. The beds are like melting into a cloud very delicious. The buffet isn't cheap but it is an experience. The Cafe is not as expensive, very comfortable and surprisingly fine dining. The shops are over-the-top but interesting to walk through. There is of course...VERY FINE DINING, but I have better things to do with my $$$. The entrance to the Wynn is beautiful and seasonal(we go there every holiday season to see the artistry). Just a little FYI - every piece of decorative tile was hand layed. I agree with you, both The Wynn and The Encore is worth a stay or at least a visit!!! :-)

ponnie1950 sherilyn, i lived in vegas for 25 years years, so to be safe, just stay on the strip, or under the covered mall downtown. it is seedy behind the downtown hotels.if your playing slots, keep your purse on your lap. otherwise, you'll be ok. the working people arn't out to rip you off, a tip goes a long way in Vegas!!

Donnajane08 Quality hotels here in Las Vegas do not rip off women. Hotel prices and restaurants prices are set no matter what gender you are. Don't be hesitant it's a wonderful place to see. If staying in a hotel off the strip would make you feel safer then stay at the new hotel called the M Hotel or the Southcoast Hotel. They have everything and are very reasonable. Plus, they have shuttles that will safely take you to site see any where on the strip. Actually people don't care if your alone, lots of people come here alone (even women) and they are not singled out. They eat alone, sightsee alone, gamble alone, go to shows alone. People are really just doing there own thing and don't care besides they really don't know if your alone or not! Remember one thing that might make you feel better...Other than your room, there are camera's and security everywhere, even the parking lots,,,everywhere! You are safer here in a big beautiful hotel than you are at your local mall. Hotel employee's are always helpful and kind. Come to Vegas we would love to have you. Hope this helps and take care.

AnainElPaso Hello, my husband and I have stayed at Luxor, Tropicana, Treasure Island, and of course we stayed for free, the meals most of them we got comped, we have stayed off the strip also at the El Cortez, the casino itself is small and the people that go there are more like from the area, but we enjoyed it because at night we just walked to the light show at Freemont, and no I haven't felt ripped off because when you go to Vegas you know that 99% of the time the amount of money that you take stays there, so if you expect to always win then Vegas is not for you, we love Vegas

Nanette How do you manage to get started getting comped? I have a friend that gets invites from Vegas hotels all the time and she's no better off financially than me. How does it work?? Thanks in advance, Nanette
