The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has released their 2008 plastic surgery statistics. Here is a round up of the most popular plastic surgery procedures performed on patients in different age groups.
Most Popular Surgical Procedures for Patients Age 13-19.
During our childhood and teenage years, we are often made fun of for our physical appearances. So it comes as no surprise that the most commonly performed plastic surgery procedures performed on teenagers aged 13 to 19 are designed to correct flaws that often lead to ridicule. Some 81,885 teens underwent surgery in 2008 to reshape their noses, alter the appearance of the ears, lose weight, and reduce the size of the breast area in men, while increasing breast size in women.
1. Rhinoplasty - 38,136
2. Breast reduction in men - 14,203
3. Breast augmentation (18-19 years olds only) - 8,983
4. Ear Surgery - 7,921
5. Liposuction - 3,979.
Most Popular Non-Surgical Procedures for Patients Age 13-19.
Teenagers underwent 137,251 non-invasive cosmetic procedures last year to improve their appearances.
1. Laser hair removal - 63, 545
2. Laser vein removal - 24,580
3. Laser skin resurfacing - 16,244
4. Botox - 11,633
5. Microdermabrasion - 10,203.
Most Popular Surgical Procedures for Patients Age 20-39.
Young adults underwent 271,142 plastic surgery procedures in 2008. Four out of five of these procedures are designed to contour, shape, and improve the appearance of the body.
1. Breast augmentation - 93,652
2. Rhinoplasty - 84,210
3. Liposuction - 35,780
4. Breast lift - 13,609
5. Tummy Tuck - 12,077.
Most Popular Non-surgical Procedures for Patients Age 20-39.
Men and women aged 20 to 39 had 478, 835 non-invasive skin care procedures performed on them last year.
1. Laser hair removal - 199,263
2. Botox - 79,098
3. Microdermabrasion - 68,815
4. Laser vein removal - 27,061
5. Hyaluronic acid injections - 26,791
Most Popular Surgical Procedures for Patients Age 40-55+.
While the most popular procedures among young adults focus on the body, as men and women enter their 40s and 50s they start to focus more on the facial area. According to ASPS’ 2008 statistics, 553,242 plastic surgery procedures were performed on patients 40 and older.
1. Liposuction - 97,215
2. Eyelid surgery - 93,676
3. Breast augmentation - 84,856
4. Rhinoplasty - 61,994
5. Tummy tuck - 50,006.
Most Popular Non-surgical Procedures for Patients Age 40-55+.
Non-invasive skin care procedures performed on men and women in this age group do focus on facial anti-aging treatments. Last year 5,129,616 non-surgical cosmetic treatments were performed on patients in this group.

3. Hyaluronic acid injections - 556,875
