GOING GRAY - THE SEXY WAY

ERIN STAFFORD

Going Gray - The Sexy WayI’m often asked by clients if they should go gray or not. Only you know the answer. If you are willing to invest the time and money to keep your hair colored and cut regularly to cover the gray, then go for it. However, if you know you can’t be bothered seeing your colorist for two hours every 5 weeks, then you should think about going gray. If you’ve decided you are ready to embrace your gray like Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, or Judi Dench, then follow these tips to make sure you stay chic with your new do.

Keep your hair healthy

When hair is gray it has a tendency to look dry and brittle. Keep it silky and sultry with regular deep conditioning. When hair is healthy it keeps its shape, looks better longer, and keeps you feeling beautiful throughout the day. Silver is sexy, so make sure your hair makes people want to touch it because it is so healthy.

Get an interesting cut

Gray hair tends to make you invisible if you have a boring cut. With a great cut you command attention. Try an asymmetric cut or a blunt bob to stop people dead in their tracks. A great way to see what styles look best on you is to visit a wig store. Once there, you can let your imagination run wild with any style you like. I also suggest taking photos of yourself in wigs that you like in order to show your hairdresser and help in the transformation process.

Up your make up

Gray lightens your natural coloring, so it is important to up your make up once you have gone gray. Foundation is key, as are eyes that pop and, add a little more blush. If you are not used to wearing much make up, this may feel like too much, but you will see that once you start creating more drama with your make up you will increase your presence and perception to others.

By following these quick tips, gray hair can be sexy. They key is not to let everything else go along with your hair color. Gray hair still requires maintenance, a good cut, and more make up to pull off successfully. Don’t be afraid to gray. The sooner you embrace it, the quicker you will be able to channel your inner Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep and be that sexy, silver, starlet.

NJJazz I have not dyed my hair for 3 years. I am salt and pepper - age 57 ---------- below shoulder length straight hair. i let my bangs grow out - upped my eye makeup a little and my blush . I love the look and feel free of hair dye sessions. Now just wish the gray would finish coming in......... white is looking interesting as the next stage.

LovesToRead I have to say I am impressed that you are going gray gracefully; you do not see many ladies or even men doing now days. I had an aunt that totally gray when I was younger, I always thought she looked beautiful. But when it comes to my locks, I am not sure I could pull it off with as much dignity.

Toots I was worried at first but decided that my naturally dark hair was starting to look fake, I had it touched up once a month. I took the plunge and love the results. Even my hair dresser thinks it looks lovely! I keep it conditioned and trimmed. I get many compliments even from younger folks!
