OH-H-H, THOSE ACHING KNEES!
QUESTION:
I'm a 59-year old man and I'm probably a good 40-50 pounds overweight. The only exercise I do is that I walk once, sometimes twice a week at night with a friend. Now my knees are starting to hurt. Should I stop my night-time walks?

First and foremost, consult your physician to make sure there are no other physical problems that would prevent your fro exercising. Walking increases heart rate and the extra poundage puts more stress o the knee joints. With a sensible weight loss program, you can continue to walk (as your knees allow). Also, you should introduce strength training into your exercise routine. The leg extension machine strengthens the quadriceps (thighs) which will support the knee joint. Karen McKenzie
