MOM IS SALTING HER TEA
QUESTION:
I suspect there is something beginning to "go wrong" with my 87 year-old mother. We were in a restaurant last week and she started shaking salt into her tea cup. I took the salt shaker out of her hand, told her she was shaking salt into the tea and that she should not do that, and then I joking said that we needed to get her to the eye doctor. Two minutes passed and she again reached for the salt shaker and started "flavoring" the tea. I was stunned. How do we figure out what's wrong?
ASK HEALTH & FITNESS RESPONDS:
Don't waste any time - go now and have your mother evaluated by her primary care doctor. Ask for a good neurology work up. It is important to get a good diagnosis so you know what is causing the behavior. - Jane Venckauskas, RN
