I KNOW I SHOULD EXERCISE - BUT...

QUESTION:
I know I should exercise.  I've bought every book out there and a whole bunch of videos, to boot - yet I just can't seem to keep interested.  Is there anything you would suggest that I do - so that this becomes - and stays - an integral part of my life.

I know I should exercise - but...ASK HEALTH & FITNESS RESPONDS:
Find something you enjoy that requires movement, such as dancing, cycling, tennis, Tai Chi, Yoga, or just plain walking - and find someone to do it with.  Ideally, we should be incorporating three basic fitness components - strength, flexibility, and aerobics (cardiovascular), into any exercise program.   Most exercise incorporates at least two of these components.  Don't give up!  Research continues to show the importance of lifelong exercise on quality of life.  Karen McKenzie

Jo-Anne Hi CJ1956: We have consulted with Karen McKenzie, the Fitness Pro. She advises that your case requires a 2-prong approach. First, you need medical treatment, review, and advice; and second, you need the advice of a good physical therapist to decide what kind of exercise (if any) would be appropriate at this time. Let us know how you make out, especially if you decide to pursue seeking advice and assistance from both medical and the physical therapy professionals.

sheltiegirl01 For anyone who's looking to get healthier and shed some pounds in the process, there's a terrific book called "Younger Next Year" with a subtitle (I'll paraphrase) like "Living well in your fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties and beyond". It's very motivational and encouraging and they're not selling ANYTHING. No special diet to go on and no expensive gym to belong to. The lawyers chapters were my favorite because he writes with a great deal of humor. And he's skiing in his 70's and belongs with a group of friends who go biking in Colorado and Europe. He says he's in better shape than he was 30 years ago. I found my copy at the local library. Just thought you'd want to know.
