LOVE 'N LIFE: WANTS TO BASK IN THE SUN
Dear “OH CAROL:”
My wife and I are proud grandparents. My son, his wife, and their two kids live only about 10 miles away – so we get to see them fairly frequently (once a week). Problem is, we live up north in snow country, and now that I’m getting ready to retire (my wife already retired), I’d like to move to a much warmer climate. My wife doesn’t want to budge. She says we need to enjoy the grandkids while they’re young. I say we’ll get a place near the ocean with a swimming pool and lots of nearby attractions – offer to pay airfare, and they will come! My wife won’t hear it. Any suggestions?
Wants to Bask in the Sun
LOVE ‘N LIFE’S “OH CAROL” ANSWERS:
Dear Bask in the Sun:
Now THIS is a "problem" we should all have! What a wonderful time in your lives, I am envious and I am sure there are other readers feeling the same way.
So, how about compromise? Become "snowbirds" and fly south right after Thanksgiving. Fly the kids down for the holidays and you'll be back up in April!
I'm hearing Anne Murray, "The snowbird sings the song he always sings, And speaks to me of flowers that will bloom again in spring."
At most, it would be 3 months without seeing them. If your wife really misses them, she can take a long weekend and head north.
Hope you find the happy middle ground. Enjoy those grandchildren!
Yours 4 luv,
Carol
