WHY DO THEY CHEAT? HOW DO YOU KNOW IF THEY'RE REALLY INTO YOU?

Why do they cheat? How do you know if they're really into you? Whenever we tell someone that we write this column, the inevitable happens. An interrogation begins. Don't worry, waterboarding isn't involved. It's actually quite interesting to hear people's beliefs concerning relationships. It's also a good chance to answer on-the-spot questions.

Recently, I found myself on the phone with a friend of a relatively new friend in a rapid-fire "Answer this from a male perspective" Q&A session. I figured I'd bring a little bit of that exchange to this space. So here goes.

Question: Why do men cheat?

Damon says: Men cheat because the sky is blue. Because the moon is full. Because, per their arrangement, the woman doesn't have dinner ready at 6 p.m. Because you're not good at it. Because they know they can get away with it. Because they want to do so.

The flips side to each of the reasons, sarcastic or earnest, is that women cheat for each of them as well. You can't group all men into a set and say most or all of us do that. I'm prone to believe that any woman who throws this question out more than likely is lamenting a fresh case of infidelity. In that case you need to turn your question from "Why do men cheat?" to "Why did he cheat?" That is what's vital to you and your trials anyway. Not every single reason men cheat.

How do you know if a man really is into you?

Damon says: This is a tough one, again, because it varies from guy to guy. We all do different things to profess our like. But I can tell you this, it's about consistency. Do his actions match his words? Does he keep to even the smallest of commitments like, say, telling you that he'll call you right back and actually doing so? Is he there when he's supposed to be there (whatever the case)?

Consistency is a great barometer for many things in this life, and whether or not a man truly likes you is no different. Through his words and actions, it should be evident whether or not he's into you. His communication won't be sporadic. He'll likely dote on you. And finally, he'll tell you. Saying you have women's intuition is just a fancy way of saying "I actually pay attention to you."

If you're paying attention to a guy and he's doing these things with an air of consistency, he's probably into you. If that's not enough, you can always ask him. It can't hurt.
