LOVE 'N LIFE: EMBARRASSED, WORRIED
Dear "OH CAROL:"
Embarrassed. Married him because I thought no one else would have me. We've been together almost 35 years. I know I made a mistake and the stress of all this is killing me. I worked most of the time so I have some good savings but if I left him, I'd lose my health insurance. I don't know what to do.

LOVE 'N LIFE'S "OH CAROL" ANSWERS:
Dear "Embarrassed:"
First of all, do NOT be embarrassed. You did what you had to do for YOU at that time. NO REGRETS!
Health insurance is a scary thing but NOT a reason to stay with someone. You don't lose the spouse benefits until you are legally divorced (check the state you reside in for further info) and there are cheaper plans, free plans (Medicaid) and after 65, there's Medicare. Worrying about losing your health insurance sounds like an excuse. Get over it and find a REASON to do what's right for you!
Take some of your savings and invest it in yourself, your future and creating a masterpiece for the second half of your life! Speak to a lawyer, know your options, and then when you discuss this with your husband you will be armed with knowledge. It's your time now.
One of my favorite musicals is RENT and there's a song in there with a lyric that I quote often: "Forget regret or life is yours to miss".
It's time to embrace yourself and look FORWARD to life instead of looking back.
Yours 4 love,
Carol
