LOVE 'N LIFE: MY SON'S 'BUSINESS'

“OH CAROL:”

I’m at a loss.  I went to a local “fine dining” restaurant for business purposes.  When I arrived, I looked around and saw my married son and a woman I had never seen before off in a corner.  He didn’t see me.  Their behavior made it obvious that they weren’t there for business reasons.  There’s no doubt about that.  I didn’t go over to them and they left before I did.  I haven’t said anything to my wife - I know it would kill her.  I feel like I need to talk with my son and let him know that I know what’s going on - and that I don’t approve.  What do you think?
My Son’s ‘Business’

LOVE 'N LIFE: My Son's 'Business' LOVE ‘N LIFE’S “OH CAROL” ANSWERS:

Dear My Son’s Business:

Isn't it interesting that we tend to act like the guilty party when we run into a situation like this by making sure that they don't see us? Oh, to do it over again and let him see you... then all this angst would be on him and not on you.

Since you are his father and not someone that could be described as a nosy neighbor, I would call him up or meet with him for lunch and tell him what you saw. Do not outwardly judge. Just state the facts of what you saw and put it all in his hands. Hear him out. I am thinking of that great song by Cat Steven's about Father and Son and this one lyric came in my head: All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside, it's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.

I wish you both well, this is not an easy task.

Yours 4 Love,
Carol
